Direct Admit Program for High School Students
Secure your place in UMKC Nursing while you're still in High School
Qualifying high school seniors can earn direct admission to UMKC's Pre-Licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. Direct Admit students receive an early pathway into the nursing clinical curriculum and avoid the traditional competitive clinical application process.
What Is Direct Admit?
The Direct Admit Program allows qualified high school students to secure a place in UMKC's nursing program before starting college.
Instead of applying later through the traditional competitive admissions process, Direct Admit students who meet progression requirements move directly into the clinical nursing curriculum.
Benefits of Direct Admit
Students accepted to Direct Admit receive:
- A reserved pathway into the clinical nursing program if requirements are maintained
- No clinical supplemental application
- Early involvement with the Student Nurses' Association
- Opportunities to volunteer at nursing school events
- Connections with current nursing students and faculty
Are You Eligible?
You may qualify for Direct Admit if you:
- Are entering UMKC as a first-time college student
- Apply to UMKC as a Pre-Nursing student with the Plan to Be RN option
- Have an ACT composite score of preferably 27* or higher
- Science section is required (score of 23 or higher)
- *We will accept an ACT composite score of at least 25 or higher, with Science at 23 or higher
How to Apply
Step 1: Apply to UMKC
Submit your application to UMKC and select:
Pre-Nursing - Plan to be RN
Step 2: Submit ACT Scores
Submit your official ACT score report to UMKC Admissions.
Step 3: Complete the Direct Admit Form
Students who meet eligibility requirements will see the Direct Admit application form in their UMKC application status portal.

How to Keep Your Direct Admit Status
To move directly into the nursing clinical curriculum, you'll need to meet the following academic requirements while enrolled at UMKC.
GPA Requirements
Maintain:
- A cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
- A semester GPA of 2.75 or higher
- A prerequisite GPA of 2.75 or higher
Required Prerequisite Courses
Earn a grade of B- or higher on your first attempt in:
- Chemistry with Lab
- Anatomy and Physiology I
- Anatomy and Physiology II
- Microbiology
- Precalculus (College) Algebra
Important
Students who do not meet these requirements will lose Direct Admit status and must apply through the standard BSN clinical admission process.
