Our nationally recognized researchers are working on diverse research efforts every day. Recent work includes:
• Increasing women’s coping skills during family reintegration after combat deployment
• Methods that help adult kidney transplant recipients adhere to vital medication
• The therapeutic benefits of horsemanship for veterans
• The effects of nutritional supplements on muscle strength, fatigue, resistance and calcium handling in aged mice
Research expertise at SoNHS includes everything from basic science to community-based and translational research. The work is funded internally and externally by agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control, National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the American Heart Association, the University of Missouri Research Board and UMKC Faculty Research Grants.
Opportunities for Collaboration
Collaboration is at the heart of successful research programs. The interdisciplinary expertise represented at SoNHS research faculty is complemented by collaborations with departments across the campus. UMKC is one of fewer than 30 universities nationwide to have nursing, medicine, dentistry and pharmacy education programs centrally located on one campus.
