The UMKC School of Nursing and Health Studies provide resources to help international students determine eligibility including the International Student Admission Policy and Procedure (pdf) for Nursing students.
Graduates of foreign nursing schools must complete the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) qualifying examination and the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) with passing scores prior to admission to the School of Nursing and Health Studies. The school may also assess the level of current clinical skills prior to enrollment in clinical course work.
Students must also complete a CFGNS Credentials Evaluation Service (CES) report to determine equivalency of course work. The Full Education Course-by-Course Report must be requested with a copy sent to the School of Nursing and Health Studies. For more information and specific testing dates, visit CGFNS.
In the year of application to the School of Nursing and Health Studies:
• Students with an F1, J1 or H1 status must complete an International Student Application. U.S. citizens or students with permanent resident status may complete the UMKC Application.
• Register for the CGFNS qualifying exam before the deadline. Call 215-349-8767 for more information. Also, obtain and complete the CES for a full education course-by-course report to be mailed to:

• Take the CGFNS examination on the test date prior to the semester in which you plan to enroll.
• Send applications for admission to UMKC and admission to the School of Nursing and Health Studies before the published deadline.
• Send application for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). The Council of the State Boards of Nursing gives this examination.
• Take the NCLEX exam prior to admission.
• Admission to the School of Nursing and Health Studies will be considered upon completion of the CFGNS and NCLEX.
