Theresa Brown joined UMKC as a faculty member August 2024 in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program. Her research focuses on the social, psychological and physical benefits of creating a caring and task-involving climate in health and physical activity settings. As part of her research endeavors, Dr. Brown is the co-creator and co-director of Strong Girls, an after-school positive youth development program. Strong Girls pairs middle school students with college female mentors in a caring and positive environment where they work together to develop a love of physical activity and practice important life skills. Dr. Brown's previous roles have included Director of Student Resources, Wellness and Diversity at the University of Kansas Medical Center; Assistant Professor of Health Promotion at Oklahoma State University; Director of Assessment for the Division of Student Success at the University of Kansas; and Trainer and Researcher for TrestleTree, a health coaching company. When not teaching, you'll find Dr. Brown spending time with her family, taking her dogs for a walk and exploring National Parks.
