Jane Peterson, PhD, RN, ARNP, BC, FNP-C, Assistant Professor in the UMKC School of Nursing’s MSN and PhD programs has been selected to be a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP). This program was established by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) in 2000 to recognize nurse practitioner leaders who have made outstanding contributions to health care through nurse practitioner (NP) clinical practice, research, education, or policy and to provide a forum through which to extend and enhance such efforts. Priority initiatives of FAANP are the development of leadership and mentorship programs for nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner students. A limited number of Fellows are selected each year and must be invited and sponsored by other members who are also Fellows. Individuals who are considered for selection as a FAANP must show evidence of:
• Outstanding contributions and leadership in the areas of NP clinical practice, research, education and/or health policy;
• Significance and scope of influence of the applicant’s efforts;
• Continuing commitment and leadership in NP clinical practice, research, education or health policy;
• Potential for contributing to the mission of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and to FAANP initiatives.
Congratulations to Jane on this amazing accomplishment! Her colleagues, faculty, staff and students of the UMKC School of Nursing are very proud of her!
