Congratulations Are In Order

The School of Nursing and Health Studies sends congratulations to our very own, Dr. Eduardo Abreu, who is celebrating his award of promotion to Associate Professor with Tenure.

Dr. Eduardo Abreu joined the UMKC School of Nursing & Health Studies in 2010, having teaching and research responsibilities. He started his academic life studying Physics in Brazil. Still in Brazil, he went on to receive his MD and MSc in Biomedical Engineering. After working for some time as a clinician, Dr. Abreu came to the US in 1994 as a Research Fellow in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The Cleveland Clinic.

In the US, he developed an interest in tendon and ligament research, having been awarded his DEng in Applied Biomedical Engineering from The Cleveland State University in 2005. After graduating, Dr. Abreu held post-doctoral positions in the Sports Medicine Lab at Children’s Hospital of Boston and in the Orthopedic Nanotechnology Lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, associated hospitals of the Harvard School of Medicine.

At UMKC, Dr. Abreu joined the Muscle Biology Research Group-MUBIG, and the Center of Excellence in Mineralized Tissues (CEMT) bringing his research expertise in tendons and ligaments, a vital link in the musculoskeletal research. He is also part of the UMKC Aging Consortium.
