If you already possess an M.S.N. (or D.N.P), you can pursue a nurse practitioner certificate in the following specialty areas of care (tracks)

About the Program

UMKC’s offers post-master’s nurse practitioner certificate programs, available in the following areas (tracks) for nurses with an MSN (or DNP) degree, who wish to obtain coursework in one of the following areas (without completing another degree).  Please refer to the application materials posted on the Graduate Admissions page.

After admission, a custom plan of study will be developed based on previous course work*.  (Copies of MSN syllabi will be requested for review)

*The sample plans of study represent the minimum required courses.  Based on your previous course work additional courses may be required.  (As required for each certification board)

Students with a Master of Science in Nursing degree (MSN) have many options at the UMKC School of Nursing & Health Studies:

*The following are the usual prerequisite graduate level course work (or equivalent) to be completed prior to or as part of the certificate program of study. These courses may be from your MSN graduate program or completed at UMKC with your certificate hours. A Gap Analysis and individualized program of study will be completed for each admitted student.

*Minimum requirements from certification boards include the following:

Advanced pathophysiology
Advanced pharmacology/applied pharmacology
Advanced health assessment across the lifespan
Diagnostic Reasoning for the APRN
Health promotion
