The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is designed to evaluate the academic readiness of candidates prior to admission into the nursing program. The results also provide documentation useful for counseling and advisement. This examination also assesses the candidate’s ability to respond and apply knowledge to new situations and to understand complex technical material and relationships. These scores will be used as part of the application process and will in no way be the sole criteria for determining entrance into the clinical major. Please visit the TEAS website for more information.
Students who are NOT applying to the UMKC School of Nursing & Health Studies may also take the TEAS at UMKC, however they will have to pay a fee to take the test, and also arrange through www.atitesting.com to pay to have their official scores sent to the school they are applying to.
Dates for the 2015 TEAS test are not yet available. Please check back later.
If you took the TEAS elsewhere, enclose a copy of results in your application packet
Pre-Nursing students enrolled in N101 will be assessed the Educational Fee which will enable you to take the TEAS during the semester you enroll. Thus, if you’re scheduled for N101 in the spring, you will be assessed an Educational Fee at that time which will make you eligible to take the TEAS. Or, if you took N101 in a previous semester or year, you were already assessed the fee and are eligible to take the TEAS. If you don’t take the TEAS, your application packet will NOT be reviewed.
If you already took N101, your fees for the TEAS were paid as part of the cost of the course. You just need to take the TEAS and do your best. Students granted equivalency for the course need to inform Judy Jellison by e-mail.
Yes, you may retake the TEAS test for an $80 fee. However, dates for the 2015 TEAS test are not yet available. Please check back later.
The TEAS is similar to the ACT. There will be four sections; Mathematics, Reading, Science, and English and Language Usage. For more information, please visit the TEAS Web site.
