Clinical Assitant Professor
Marcia joined UMKC in 2009 as a clinical instructor for the BSN pre-licensure program at the UMKC SoNHS. She has provided clinical and didactic instruction for students in the traditional and accelerated prelicensure nursing tracks, and the MSN, DNP advance practice nursing tracks. While her primary focus at the SoNHS is Psychiatric Mental Health, she has also provided clinical and / or didactic instruction for Community Health, Culture and Diversity, and Ethics.
Marcia’s educational and training background include Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from Beloit College, Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, Master’s Degree in Social Work – Emphasis in Geriatric Social Work and Management from Washington University, Masters Degree in Nursing – Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from the University Missouri Columbia, Doctor of Nursing Practice, Emphasis in Geropsychiatric Nursing from University of Missouri Kansas City School of Nursing and Health Studies. She is board certified as a PMHNP and LCSW/ACSW. She is licensed as an APN in the states of MO, IL, IA, and KS and as a LCSW in the state of MO. She is currently working in private long-term care practice in MO.
Marcia was named the March of Dimes Behavioral Health Nurse of the Year in 2015. Other honors include Sigma Theta Tau, Omicron Delta Kappa, Gold Key, and Sigma Phi Omega. She is an active member of the American Psychiatric Nurse Association, the International Society of Psychiatric Nursing, The Geriatric Advance Practice Nurse Association, the American Geriatric Society, and the Neuroscience Education Institute. Current research interests include geropsychiatric mental health, geropsychopharmacology, and nursing competency related to older adult mental health care.
