Clinical Associate Professor
Jo Klaassen has been a nurse educator for more than 18 years. She currently teaches full-time for the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Nursing in both the pre-licensure and RN-BSN nursing programs. She was recently appointed to the Kansas State Board of Nursing where she serves on the practice and disciplinary committees. She also serves on several national professional committees and is a Section Editor for the Journal of Nursing Law.
She participates in research on the use of simulation to teach legal/ethical principles to nursing students and presents and publishes on technology applications for nursing education and legal issues related to health care. A licensed nurse and attorney in both Missouri and Kansas, she practices as a community-based psychiatric-mental health nurse and has experience as an attorney in a plaintiffs’ law firm and in a solo legal practice.
