Janet Wood, DNP, RN, NP-C
Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Wood serves as Clinical Assistant Professor in the UMKC School of Nursing and Health Studies, teaching a variety of courses in the masters’ and DNP programs. She maintains a clinical practice at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO within the Hospitalist Medicine department. Dr. Wood’s 40-year nursing career has included roles in clinical care, administration, education, and advanced practice nursing.
She completed an Associate Degree in Nursing from Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, MO in 1977, followed by bachelor and master degrees in nursing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1990 and 1998. Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners since 1999, Dr. Wood’s advanced practice nursing experience spans primary care, urgent care, inpatient and outpatient physical medicine and rehabilitation, as well as adult acute hospital practice.
A life-long learner, Dr. Wood completed her DNP at UMKC in 2015. Her doctoral project which evaluated the outcomes of a collaborative model of care for patients with acute stroke and transient ischemic attack was published in the Journal of Neuroscience Nursing.
She is a firm believer in the transformative power of education.
