Current College/Transfer Students

Are you ready to make a change in a new environment? UMKC advisers have created several resources to help transfer students prepare for the move and settle in to their new setting.

Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHS)

Current College and Transfer Students

If you are a current UMKC student interested in admission to UMKC’s Bachelor of Health Science program, schedule a meeting with your academic advisor or contact the School of Nursing and Health Studies advising office. You may also visit the BHS program page.

If you are a transfer student, here are the criteria for BHS admission:

  • Students who have completed a minimum of 24 hours of regionally accredited college credits (above remedial level) at the time they are applying to UMKC with a major in BHS do not need to submit ACT/SAT test score(s) or high school transcripts.
  • Transfer GPA of 2.0 or higher for cumulative college credit. Students with a GPA below 2.0 will be asked to petition for admission consideration into the College of Arts & Sciences Pre-Health program; once a student has raised his/her GPA to the required 2.0, the student may then change his/her major to BHS.
  • Please note that the Office of Admissions determines general admissibility to UMKC based on the criteria listed above; students who have been admitted to UMKC with the BHS major by the Office of Admissions have done all that they need to do to be admitted to the program. There is no separate application process for the BHS. Once admitted, you will need to log back into your UMKC application to accept your admission.
  • Transfer guides and Transferology are available to help you evaluate how your credit hours will transfer to UMKC and find common transfer equivalency lists from Kansas City-area community colleges.

Application procedure for transfer applicants to the BHS program:

  • Complete UMKC application (all applications are $45)
  • Submit official college transcript from all institutions where you earned credit using one of these methods:
    • By mail
      UMKC Office of Admissions
      Administrative Center
      5115 Oak St., Room 120
      Kansas City, MO 64112
    • By secured email
      umkc-admtranscript@umkc.edu
    • By electronic transfer
      Through your academic institution

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Current College and Transfer Students

Pre-licensure BSN

Current UMKC and transfer college students interested in UMKC’s Pre-licensure BSN program should schedule a meeting with an academic advisor to review the requirements for application. You may also visit the BSN Pre-Licensure program page.

Additional notes about the structure of the Pre-licensure BSN program:

  • The UMKC School of Nursing and Health Studies Pre-licensure BSN program uses a 1+3 format, which calls for students to complete one year of general education followed by three years of nursing courses with general education courses mixed in. This means students receive earlier nursing experience than many traditional 2+2 programs.
  • We highly recommend that interested students in BSN programs attend an information session to learn the program specifics. Information sessions for the Pre-licensure BSN program are held monthly at the Health Sciences Building - visit our Orientation and Visits page for more information on the Roo+Major visits.
  • Students applying to the BSN program should visit the Transfer guides and Transferology sites to be certain that you take the correct equivalent courses.

Accelerated-BSN students

The Accelerated track is specifically for prospective students who already have a bachelor degree. Please visit the ATBSN page to learn more. We highly recommend attending a Roo+Major campus visit, which you can learn more about here. Also, be sure to visit the Transfer Equivalencies site to be certain that you take the correct equivalent courses.

Information Sessions

Information sessions for the Accelerated and Pre-licensure BSN programs are held monthly at the Health Sciences Building. Learn more at our Orientation and Visits page.
